The term is often mentioned in the same breath as a sustainable future for potato cultivation. But precision farming is more than a future perspective. It’s being researched, experimented with and innovated around the world. Several growers have also been using precision techniques for some time now. Dr Corné Kempenaar of Wageningen University & Research predicts that, when the grower is in charge of his own data, he has the power to make the customer pay extra for more environmentally-friendly grown potato cultivation.   At PotatoEurope 2022, we also have a Special on our programme highlighting Smart Potato Farming. This Special provides the professional audience with an idea of the digital and autonomous solutions that they can anticipate in potato production over the next few years. Market-ready innovations or products that have successfully completed initial practical tests should be presented here. Georg Henkels, one of the two sons of the farm manager and thus part of the 3rd generation, provides information about the upcoming trade fair event. The Rittergut provides a total of more than 40 hectares of arable land for PotatoEurope 2022, as exhibition and trial area as well as for the machine demonstrations and as parking area. These potatoes, planted a bit later in the season for several demonstrations as part of the programme of PotatoEurope 2022, should be the right size by September 7-8.
