Update from Rittergut Bockerode:
'Beautiful times in the preparation for PotatoEurope'
'One of the most beautiful times in the preparation for PotatoEurope begins with the blooming of the potato plants', says Georg Henkels from Rittergut Bockerode. 'At this point you can see the first differences between the many different varieties in the trial field. In each plot, the potatoes bloom in a different color and the weed growth is also clearly different.'
'The first fungicide measures have already been carried out by partner Field Research, and a first measure against aphids and Colorado beetles has also been taken. We also started mowing the grass fields around the trials regularly so that by autumn, when the first tents will be set up, a dense grass turf has formed. Paths were also laid out in the plots and the planting sections were straightened.'
'Due to the small amount of rain in the last few months (May 30mm, June 20mm), we had to irrigate the approximately 0.3ha demo plots. Since we don't have irrigation technology in our company and we don't have any wells either, we had to improvise with the 5,500l field sprayer.'
